Available now to North America, the ST1 e-bike can be found at Stromer dealers where it sells for around $3,500. If the asking price is a bit steep Stromer is currently promoting an ST1 giveaway for US residents, ending 17 May 2013.
I bought this bike with intended use on my hunting farms. I’ve ridden it now off road several times, and to say I’m blown away, is an understatement. This bike simply blew me away on all fronts. The motor is super strong and pulls me around great. I’m 6’2 210 so I’m not a small guy either. Like others have said, if this thing doesn’t make you smile the first time you ride it, you’re just not a happy person!!!!
The frame’s lowered top tube maximizes stand over clearance and rider comfort, making it easy to mount and dismount. The frame is engineered to ensure an efficient, responsive ride and stable handling, even at low speed.
Risk: Biking does add a bit of risk. Walking in most hunting areas is risky much less moving at 10-15 miles per hour with a weapon either mounted on your pack or bike. The key is preparation. While not hunting, bike with a pack or weighed down just like you would if you were hunting, and always wear a helmet.
Road Force® technology uses a diagnostic load roller to solve vibration problems and identify vehicle pulls. SmartWeight® balancing technology improves balance and minimizes weight usage. Hunter wheel balancers deliver exceptional balancing service with several patented features including Road Force®, SmartWeight® and the BullsEye™ centering system.
Most bike hunters I see don’t wear helmets. Always wear a helmet! Sooner or later, you’re probably going to crash. A head injury behind a locked gate or on a trail can quickly become serious. I painted an old bike helmet with camo paint to eliminate the reflection and carry my cap in the panniers, changing it when I get off the bike.
So the design was coming together in my mind, actually it kind of distracted me from the hunt. The bike would be kind of a super-muttonmaster, a 29-er with fairly relaxed geometry and a long-ish rear center. It would have a strong, solid, welded-on steel rack like the muttonmaster. The bags would be an epic pair of panniers running from the front end of the bike all the way electric hunting bike equipment the end of the rack. The seat, shoved way down into the frame, would help carry the bags. It would have gears and disk brakes. The rear brake had to be especially powerful to hold the loaded bike on downhill runs. And, it would probably run front suspension.
A tagline from the brand is “We make gear for people looking to hunt, fish and forage in remote places.” Hansi Johnson, a Minnesota cyclist and hunter, happens to be one of them. He recently used the Cogburn bike hunting for ruffed grouse in the north woods of Minnesota.
Some of you may remember an article I wrote in the early 2000’s about utilizing mountain bikes as a tool for hunting. While the bikes were a great tool for eliminating scent and going quietly into the woods, they did have their drawbacks. Under pedal power, I found I often arrived at my stand sweaty which was less than ideal. Even though mountain bikes were made for off road adventures, I often found that their tires were less than adequate for coping with fallen branches, rocks, and the like often found while hunting.
The bike has been tested through 3 hunting seasons now. It has also attracted some attention at bicycle shows and will definitely be at the upcoming Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show and possibly the next North American Handmade Bicycle Show.
(Note: Despite the humour conveyed in the video, this is actually a true report of trail conditions and will be resolved sometime over the weekend – in the meantime you will need to get off and lift over – hopefully a bit more successfully than these lads)

An unpressured deer is a different animal: It moves around throughout the day, relaxed and casual in its movements. It strolls into open areas during daylight without even considering that it might need to look up into trees to check for humans.
Hey guys, great article. I’m an avid hunter and mountain bike enthusiast. I’ve been thinking about this concept for a year or so now and found your site while doing some research. I’ll be setting up a site at http://www.mountainbikehunting.com and would be honored if you would be a contributor or if I could refer to your page here.

Three of the major players in the fat tire hunting bikes are Felt, Rambo and Cogburn. Each of these offers accessories that make the bike useful for hauling hunting gear. This includes racking, bow and gun holders, trailers, bags, lighting and fenders.
Excellent mobility, speed and ability to get me to and from my hunting stands with ease. I have owned Quietkat now for a couple years, a 72 volt Rancher model and have made numerous accessories to aid me with my hunting adventures. It’s lite, durable and I’m able to get into some of the tightest places. Game animals walk right past it as if it wasn’t there. Great Value.

The meld of biking and hunting is interesting to us and perhaps timely. Ostensibly, the Cogburn bike is an alternative to an ATV. There’s a movement of a younger demographic of hunters that may find a non-motorized option appealing.
As these fat tire bikes have showed up at hunting shows over the last year, I have viewed them more with curiosity than anything, but I as I considered how they might fit into my bowhunting, I am about to take the plunge. I bowhunt whitetails on public land in several states each year, and that often involves getting way back into a property to get away from the crowds. For example, I have found a location where I have killed a couple of mature bucks on public land in Kansas, but it’s a walk of more than 1.5 miles. That’s a long haul before daylight and after dark. Once I shoot a big buck back in there, the distance seems to become even longer.

The first order of business: Lose all the shine. After removing all the decals, I lightly sanded the finish and wiped the bike down thoroughly with acetone; then, every surface from which light could reflect was covered with olive-drab spray paint. My ride looked cooler already.
The predator-afflicted can make stands for miles across the desert without the need of firing up a noisy vehicle. There is little doubt that e-bikes are vehicles of many applications, and they cost a fraction of their electric-powered counterparts.
Presented at Eurobike 2010 (where it took home a Gold Award for innovation), the Schwinn Vestige is finally hitting the mainstream market, selling in stores across the U.S. toward the end of July 2011. The biodegradable bike is made from recyclable…
The low slung top tube is key with a the scabbard. I had no idea how much I roll off the back of a bike when I dismount. With a gun or bow is sticking up off the back of your trusty steed, you must go over the top tube to dismount. In heavy hunting gear the movement is like high stepping over an electric fence.
I received my ALL TERRAIN 750 right before my month long Colorado archery deer and elk hunt. I was able to quietly get in to places in 15 minutes that used to take me over an hour to hike in! If you are a serious hunter that wants to get away from the crowds to hunt then you NEED one of these bikes. I did a ton of research and comparing and M2S hands down has the best bike / customer service for the price, period!
Getting to remote stands usually requires entering into the woods well before daylight; getting out requires long walks in the dark. Neither scenario makes for a silent passage. Striking a compromise between a quiet approach and a quick advance can be difficult — which is exactly what a mountain bike can offer.

Every stick, vine, rock, branch and felled log finds a way to impede your progress — and that’s just going downhill. Skinned ankles, banged-up shins and the never-pleasant lunging off the seat and onto the bar of the bike are good-enough reasons not even to try it.
