After using a bike for this upcoming season, I should have a lot better feel for how these questions will be answered. At this point, I can see all kinds of applications for them in scouting, checking game cameras, plus getting to and from a treestand. The advantage of being able to get around much more quickly could be huge.
2006 Specialized Hardrock Comp hardtail. I don’t like rear suspension because I feel it robs energy that I want transferred to the ground when I pedal. I use conventional toe-clips to accommodate my hunting footwear. The tires are 2.20″ for extra load distribution. I also have TopPeak front fender to keep mud and water out of my face.
I Purchased in January for hunting. I added a rubber maid basket to carry times like tools, rain gear etc. It did take some time to get use to driving. It is quiet, so I can drive to my neighbors and hunt back yards without disturbing their morning sleep. I love it that i can pick it up and load into my truck without assistance. The battery life is great, and easy to charge. I also use it around the yard when my wife steals my gator for her bee work. Next week to the turkey woods in north pa.
I have own this bike for 4 years now, and its a great bike for hitting the trails and going off road. I was surprised multiple times as i have wiped out on this bike about five times and yet the bike has received nearly no damage. The bike is still in great shape and can handle hills, jumps, and rough trails very well. The only problem i have had is the gears. The need to be twiked other wise they will skip on you. Other wise i do recommend this bike for mountain biking and hitting trails.

Pedaling a bike uphill, even a slight uphill, can quickly raise heart rates and make out-of-shape muscles sore. On steeper hills, pushing the loaded bike gives an ample workout. Sitting on a seat, even downhill, can be a pain all its own. I’ve always worked at staying in some kind of shape, and once I started mountain biking for elk I had even more reason. I ride a quality exercise bike at home for 25 minutes every other day year-round and use a heart rate monitor to get my heart into the target heart zone: 110-125 beats per minute for a 61-year old guy.

Mountain bikes have occupied a small niche in bowhunting for many years, but they have never gone mainstream. These bikes are not made for hunting and therefore must be modified, and their use is limited to certain terrains. That said, the growth in popularity of fat tire bikes has been quite remarkable, and I suppose it was only a matter of time before they made a serious move at the hunting market.
What I learned wringing the bike out: first thing was, the controls needed to be reversed (I’m right handed) so I could control the bike with my left hand while keeping the rifle from falling off my shoulder. Also, I push the bike from the left side and I wanted the rear brake on the left for control on downhill stretches. You wouldn’t want your load to drag you downslope to an uncertain fate ….
The results are in! What a great morning of XC racing we had at Awaba today. We had 9 kids on the development track who were rewarded with cake pops made by Annie G, plus a pick from the lolly/chip bucket! This event was directed by Dallas. After three years of rough use, the vinyl covering has held up surprisingly well, marred only by a few predictable chips and scuffs, and the olive drab base coat continues to prevent any glare or reflections.
I bought my QK in 2015 and have used it for more that a season now and am very pleased with both the performance of the unit, and the service from the company. It loads into my SUV, and is easy to take in and out and no trailer needed. Carries a load of 400#s with no problem, is quiet, quick, and makes my hunts more enjoyable. Keep in mind that where I hunt in Minnesota it is legal to have your gun uncased and loaded while riding a bike. I have certainly toyed with the idea of having an ATV style rack on the handlebars, but that means I can not travel tight twisty trails and I do like the fact that the upright scabbard allows for quick handling.
Admittedly, ATVs outperform bikes when it comes to one critical task: getting a deer out of the woods. Sorry, folks, but I’ve tried it all — plastic sleds, bike trailers, you name it — and there’s just no good way to lug dead weight with a bike.

Suddenly, movement to my left broke my concentration. A patch of brown was moving through the trees, leisurely working its way towards me. Within a few minutes, a mature doe had closed the gap between us to within 30 yards of my stand.
Washington’s turkey numbers are doing very well and we are fortunate to have three of the sub-species here. If you visit the WDFW website, there are published turkey maps that show the distribution and harvest reports. Armed with these data, you can begin honing in on a hunt that fits with your available time off and/or desired species. I will tell you from many years of experience that hunting public land Easterns here in Western Washington are quite challenging unless you have private ground and/or a leg up on a hot spot. These birds thrive in the thick stuff and their numbers aren’t anywhere near that of Rio Grande and Merriams levels. Still, it can be done and many hunters are successful each spring west of I-5. As these fat tire bikes have showed up at hunting shows over the last year, I have viewed them more with curiosity than anything, but I as I considered how they might fit into my bowhunting, I am about to take the plunge. I bowhunt whitetails on public land in several states each year, and that often involves getting way back into a property to get away from the crowds. For example, I have found a location where I have killed a couple of mature bucks on public land in Kansas, but it’s a walk of more than 1.5 miles. That’s a long haul before daylight and after dark. Once I shoot a big buck back in there, the distance seems to become even longer.
When turkey hunting odor is not an issue but for deer, predators, etc. using an electric bike would eliminate sweating, be quieter and reduce scent from boots verses walking. My walk ins are not bad but on public land the bike could get a hunter deeply in as well as reduce odor. However, In Arkansas I do not believe any motorized vehicle is allowed in our Ozark or Ouachita National Forests?
Mountain Bikes are an incredible (but underutilized) tool for hunters, and when you add some electricity to them they are even better (way, way better). Aside from Western hunting, they can pull double-duty getting deer hunters into treestands scent and sound free. Turkey hunters can forget “run-and-gun techniques” covering way more miles “pedaling and gunning.”
I bought this go-kart for my daughters about a year and a half ago or maybe it was 2-1/2 years ago who knows. It sits in our garage and has barely been used. Its a constant source of headache and I wish I could go back in time and convince myself to NOT buy this go-kart. I HATE when my kids want to use it because just as the case today, I couldn’t get the thing to start. If there was a way I knew to lemon law it,..simply return it for a refund, I would do so. It has so many problems that they never seem to end. It would start OK when we had just purchased the go-kart but you always had to have someone sitting behind the wheel pushing on the accelerator or the engine would die,…no idling with this go-kart without it dying. Also, the right rear tire has never held air long. I think the recommended age for this go-kart is 14+ but it is really designed for about an 8 year old. While the kart has knobby tires indicating it could travel off road, my daughter who was 7 at the time and 42lbs could not drive it off road up a moderate incline in the grass without needing one of us to push. And while the go-kart will pull my 12 year old on pavement, at 5’3″ she can barely fit into the go-kart with the seat all the way back. The turning on the go-kart is very poor, the right front tire is almost bald because the other front tire doesn’t touch the ground and I called the company about these problems and to their credit, even though they told me it was past the 90 day limit they did send me a replacement for the tire that goes flat but they then told me I’d have to find an engine shop and pay to have the tire put on. They also told me to go on their website and follow videos to clean out the carburetor which might help with the engine failing and terrible power. I might be able to change my car’s tire but I am not a mechanic and the company needs to do more than send a piece of junk to me and expect me to fix it.
