The bikes allow us to cover more country faster than walking, plus game retrieval is many times a downhill cruise. That first year, we were the only hunters riding bikes opening weekend. Since then, we’ve seen many others use bikes in our area, but few stay the course every day of the season.

Presented at Eurobike 2010 (where it took home a Gold Award for innovation), the Schwinn Vestige is finally hitting the mainstream market, selling in stores across the U.S. toward the end of July 2011. The biodegradable bike is made from recyclable…

Having been around the business of bowhunting for more than 40 years, I have seen some products, ideas and concepts come and go. A lot of them. Some of these things become important parts of bowhunting success for many archers, some find a small niche and move along with the growth of the industry, and, of course, some are relegated to the ash-heap of history.  The ones that survive seem to be products that fill a need.

But when trucks, four-wheelers and marching hunters break the eight-month silence and begin spreading foreign smells through the woods, it takes almost no time at all before the deer completely change their ways, transforming, seemingly overnight, into nervous, mostly nocturnal animals that proceed with caution, scenting the wind before emerging from thick cover. They pattern human movement — not difficult to do when humans are associated with running motors and exhaust fumes.

I have tried all manner of bikes in the woods and this fat bike is the best. It’s quiet, forgiving on rough terrain and its stable. Some might call fat bikes a fad or gimmick but I think they’re wrong. I moved to a Pugsley for hunting years ago from a hard tailed mountain bike because it was just plain more fun.

I got this bike for hunting remote areas i had a hard tail bike and wanted a full suspension bike. This bike is a good buy for the price well made and the hardware is of good quality. One thing that disappointed me was the bike did not come with kenda cortez tires as stated on product description so i upgraded them myself other than that good bike for the mountain bike hunter.

Before I started bowhunting, I had no idea of the joy that hunting unpressured deer brings. Only one other archer was in my hunting club, and those first few weeks before gun season started were truly wonderful.

I purchased this bike to replace a mongoose Ledge 2.1 from Walmart. (lasted only 12 miles then fell apart). Although the bike came with crappy tires, front forks AND shock did not match the product description. i am still happy with it overall. It looks cool and rides very well for being so inexpensive. EASY ASSEMBLY.

The scabbard is built as a transport for guns and bows and not for quick removal and hunting while under way. The actual rubber mounts for the guns are geared toward sleek weapons and not a short stubby shotgun and I have had to improvise the upper attachment.

If you are concerned about the speed and power of an electric bike, pay attention to the motor size. Electric motor size is measured in watts and usually ranges between 250 and 750. When deciding on the appropriate amount of wattage, think about factors like the weight of the rider and the desired speed and terrain for the bike. If your child will mostly be on a flat surface, lower wattage should suffice; if they are planning to ride up and down hills, look for a bike with a larger motor.

So the design was coming together in my mind, actually it kind of distracted me from the hunt. The bike would be kind of a super-muttonmaster, a 29-er with fairly relaxed geometry and a long-ish rear center. It would have a strong, solid, welded-on steel rack like the muttonmaster. The bags would be an epic pair of panniers running from the front end of the bike all the way to the end of the rack. The seat, shoved way down into the frame, would help carry the bags. It would have gears and disk brakes. The rear brake had to be especially powerful to hold the loaded bike on downhill runs. And, it would probably run front suspension.

After using a bike for this upcoming season, I should have a lot better feel for how these questions will be answered. At this point, I can see all kinds of applications for them in scouting, checking game cameras, plus getting to and from a treestand. The advantage of being able to get around much more quickly could be huge.

Hey guys, great article. I’m an avid hunter and mountain bike enthusiast. I’ve been thinking about this concept for a year or so now and found your site while doing some research. I’ll be setting up a site at http://www.mountainbikehunting.com and would be honored if you would be a contributor or if I could refer to your page here.

The bike has been tested through 3 hunting seasons now. It has also attracted some attention at bicycle shows and will definitely be at the upcoming Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show and possibly the next North American Handmade Bicycle Show.

Three of the major players in the fat tire hunting bikes are Felt, Rambo and Cogburn. Each of these offers accessories that make the bike useful for hauling hunting gear. This includes racking, bow and gun holders, trailers, bags, lighting and fenders.

Available now to North America, the ST1 e-bike can be found at Stromer dealers where it sells for around $3,500. If the asking price is a bit steep Stromer is currently promoting an ST1 giveaway for US residents, ending 17 May 2013.

While he’s not one to brag, Rick’s frames are the go-to choice of riders from the legendary DFL Cross Dress Series to the Cycle Messenger World Championships. They will all tell you the same thing: There is no finer frame than a Hunter.

If you’re looking for a low-impact way to hunt, using a mountain bike will serve that purpose very well. It’s quiet, quick, versatile and just plain fun. If you’ve never tried it before, you owe it to yourself to pull that bike off those hooks in the garage, trick it out and hit the woods with it.

State lands are not gated but may not be well marked with signs. But they are open to the public so there’s no issue with hunting them. Timber company lands are usually easy to identify because most access points are gated, and these gates are painted different colors according to the company ownership. That fact isn’t too important because public access is usually permitted with limited regulation, such as no overnight camping, building fires, and the use of motorized vehicles behind the gates.  A key point to note – during the early bow seasons in Washington and Oregon wildfire potential increases and timber companies are quick to restrict all public access until adequate rains soak the forests.  Hefty fines are issued to those who don’t respect these restrictions.

Cogburn understands that there are people who use a bike as human-powered access to the backcountry to hunt and fish. It will be fun to see how other hunters use this machine and what innovations will be made to upcoming editions.

If you don’t hunt you can use this bike for camping. Load it up, push it up any trail where bicycles are allowed. You can carry your load more easily on the bike, or you can carry much more stuff just as easily, compared to backpacking. And once you set up camp, you have a bicycle to get around on, haul wood and water, ride over to that trout-filled lake, and so on.

The ShippingPass assortment is continually being optimized. Products are added and removed for lots of reasons, but the main reason is to show items that we’re 100% sure we can deliver within the promised timeline.

The scabbard is both awesome and frustrating. Forever I have been just slinging the 12 gauge over my back. The first time I put the gun on the scabbard was freeing. It felt so good to get that blasted thing off my back and on the electric hunting bike equipment

Every stick, vine, rock, branch and felled log finds a way to impede your progress — and that’s just going downhill. Skinned ankles, banged-up shins and the never-pleasant lunging off the seat and onto the bar of the bike are good-enough reasons not even to try it.
